I saw a great example of how the standards won’t work which are applied
to the curriculum is that of a man named Doug Hermann of Painesville, Ohio. He is a father who is tired and frustrated
with his child’s fourth grade Common Core long-form math curriculum. Hermann’s child needed money for lunch; so, in
his frustration, he decided to write a mock check to Melridge Elementary using
cryptic series in which consisted of “X’s and O’s” instead of writing the correct
dollar amount. Of course, this was a
joke and before tearing the check Mr. Hermann took a picture of it. He then proceeded to post the picture of the
check on Facebook and it became viral. As for everyone knows, this check would have not been accepted at school
due to the banks not being able to process the check.
